Nonprofits for Opportunity Hack 2021!
We're happy to announce that we've reviewed all nonprofit applications and we'll be working with the following nonprofits this year!
- Control Alt Delete LLC: Economic Empowerment - helping to empower women
- SARSEF Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation: Economic Empowerment, Education
- Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels: Health and Human Services
- Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS): Economic Empowerment, Education, Career Mentoring
- Mindfulness First: Education, Health and Human Services, Other areas
Over the next week, we're going to be meeting with them to review their problem statements and develop something that will look similar to this from last year.
As hackers, you'll use these problem statements, along with Slack conversations with the nonprofits, and mentors to build solutions that help them and the people they help!
Here is some more info on each nonprofit below - see you soon!
Control Alt Delete
Control Alt Delete helps people escape domestic violence. 99% of all clients are financially abused. We help with one time assistance with rent/utility/move in payments allowing the women we help to remain housed during this transition to independence. These Survivors have needed this help as they take control of their finances and futures.
SARSEF Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation
SARSEF's mission is creating Arizona’s future critical thinkers and problem solvers through science and engineering. Everything we do is guided by our organizational values: innovation, equity, and engagement.
SARSEF started in 1955 on the University of Arizona campus. Over the years, SARSEF encouraged preK-12 students to pursue their dreams in science and engineering fields, adding programs and events to serve the entire community and state. By 1999, SARSEF grew too big for even the largest space on the campus and formed a nonprofit so the organization could serve even more children.
Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels
During her three-year fight with leukemia and nine-month battle with a brain tumor, Amanda Hope dreamed that one day she would design a fun clothing line for kids just like her that would provide comfort and dignity during chemo treatments. Amanda's life ended all too soon but her dream lives on through our Comfycozy's for Chemo apparel and her legacy continues with our expansion of programs and services.
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS)
Beginning in 1992, we have made concerted efforts towards inclusive education, women empowerment, tribal uplift and sustainable development. We have grown to become the world’s largest residential education institution for tribal children. Our experience shows that, given access and opportunity, there is no limit to what indigenous students can achieve. It is our lifelong mission to ensure that indigenous heritage is accorded due respect and indigenous communities are empowered through spreading of awareness about tribal rights.
Mindfulness First
Our mission is to offer scientifically-informed programs based in trauma-informed Mindful Awareness and Social-Emotional Learning which equitably support children, educators and communities with tools to manage stress and navigate life’s challenges.
We envision a cohesive society where humankind is supported by equitable tools for self-efficacy and mental health wellbeing through systemic changes for stronger, safer and more connected communities.
